Hario Vacuum Brewing Instructions

1. Pour almost boiling water into the lower bowl, up to the desired level on the measuring scale (120ml water per cup) and then, light the alcohol burner.
2. Attach the filter to the upper glass bowl stem as shown in the picture.
3. Add one heaping spoonful per cup (about 11g or 0.35oz) of regular ground coffee into the upper bowl.
4. Position the upper bowl by pressing lightly, without forcing. The air expanded by the heat causes the water to rise in the upper bowl. Stir with a spoon to mix well.
5. The escaping air produces turbulence. Wait about one minute with the burner still lit.
(Some water should always remain in the bottom of the lower part)
6. Remove the burner. Extinguish the flame by means of its cover. The perfectly filtered coffee is then sucked down into the lower bowl.
7. Remove the upper bowl by gently rocking back and forth. Place it on the stand.
8. You now have perfect coffee to be served directly into the cup.

It is very important to wash the filter cloth before and after each use. Store the filter cloth in clean water in the refrigerator.

Handling of Alcohol Lamp
Check the height of the turned - up wick and the quantity of alcohol before lighting. Proper height of the wick is 3 mm. max.
Use of denatured alcohol is highly recommended. Be sure to extinguish flame before adding alcohol to lamp. Put cover hood over the burning tip to extinguish.
Pour alcohol into lamp. Be careful not to spill alcohol. Varnished surfaces will dissolve in alcohol. Keep outer surface of lamp clean and dry.
Return alcohol remaining in lamp to its storage glass container when it is not used for an extended period of time.
